I'm going to the hospital again tomorrow for my 8th chemotherapy, which is supposed to be my last. I've got nearly everything packed, from pajamas to fresh fruit, and I hope I won't have to stay longer than 4-5 days. Unfortunately our hospitals don't have a practice of using a port for hooking up the IV, so my poor veins are in a bad condition; some puncture locations are swollen, others are hard to touch, and one seems to be inflamed - I noticed this morning that it was red and painful to touch. I'll definitely draw attention to this; that's not supposed to happen.

After I'm done with all of this, I intend to start posting more regularly (I've said that before, but I really mean it this time :crosses fingers:), and I mean to start working on improving my calligraphy, bookbinding and watercolor skills. The money I had saved for my postgrad had to go for bills, some additional meds and healthier food, so I need to find an additional source of income. I had to quit my nightly teaching job because I couldn't handle being awake until 3 a.m. any more; I can reapply but if I do, I'll have to rework my schedule so that I can work on my thesis as well as on my skills. It won't bring in as much as it used to, but any little bit will help. And hopefully, once I finish my postgrad, I'll be able to ask for a raise.

If only I could win that jack pot... :D

New art!

Not that great art, but new nonetheless! This is very good, because I've been unable to draw and paint both due to time, and a general feeling of listlessness caused by a long illness and too many work and school obligations.

I used Letraset Aquamarkers, because they are a new medium for me and I wanted to try them out, although I followed advice and examples from the book "Painting Watercolors" by Cathy Johnson. I love that book. It's so easy to follow.

Anyway, here are the images. I hope you'll like them! (They definitely look better live; the watercolor paper I used - Cotman - looks downright mangled in some scans, though it doesn't show any damage when I look or touch it.)

And there you go. Not very good, some of them, but I had fun painting them!

What do you guys think about my laptop desk? ♥

Bought it on Saturday when I went with my aunt to help her buy new curtains. I can also use it to paint watercolors if I put it to its lowest elevation, and there's also space on the mouse stand for a bowl of water. It's made of bamboo, it's very light, and I love the color.

I've had such bad luck with planning anything this year that I'm just going to just get going and see what happens. My wish is to post a piece of art every day, so we'll see if I manage to pull it through.

In celebration of that, here's my new icon, made just for NaBloPoMo!

A painting I did following a tutorial on Derwent's website. It's OK, I guess. I still have a lot to learn.

Done with Derwent Aquatone, Inktense and Watercolor pencils on Cotman watercolor paper.

Done following the instructions from the Walter Foster book on painting animals with watercolor. I intend to go through all the animals in the book.
