Keep each others safe
Dec. 4th, 2016 07:14 pmI firmly believe I wouldn’t be alive today if not for a sniper with his heart in the right place.
This was the early weeks of the war, I was in my early teens and had a habit of sitting at the dining area desk, drawing. The trouble was, this desk was in front of the window looking out on the balcony, on the first floor. We had the window shuttered, but apparently some light still got through, and whoever was on the hill above our neighborhood could see inside.
The whole thing about the war starting was still a nebulous thing to our family and to many still people living in the city, so I’d spend many nights staying up, sitting at that desk, until one morning we came into the room to see the window broken, the wood shutters pierced by a high caliber bullet which knocked off a piece of the wall and was embedded into the floor. It was a clear message to stay away from the windows.
Needless to say, we boarded shut all the windows after that, made sure no light was able to leak through, and we stayed the fuck away from the windows.
As I’m getting ready to fight another war, the war for my health, I have to say: look out for each other, keep each other safe. Times are such that I wouldn’t be surprised we found ourselves in real mortal danger some time in the near future.
