Effing Joomla!

Is there someone out there who could point me to a nice step-by-step Joomla tutorial for dummies? The one they have up at joomla.org is way too complicated for me.

Plus, upon install, Joomla comes equipped with hundreds of articles, categories and sections I don't need and only serve to confuse me. I'm trying to recreate the look of my plain html website in Joomla, and I'm just about to tear my hair out!

I hate to think what will happen when time comes for me to make a presentation of my thesis on a website run by Joomla!
