This is my second entry for the magnificent Seven Bingo, this time the card in question was "Snake Oil". I found an image on Google that I liked, and since it was fairly complicated, I used the square method of putting it down on paper. I find it most useful when I'm dealing with complex subjects , since I can concentrate on smaller pieces at a time.

Still, I found that I couldn't get his face quite right, so I enlarged and printed the original image, and transferred the facial features by taping the original and my drawing to a window.

I used a ruler for the stick, and scales for the circle. I placed a piece of cardboard down to prevent piercing the paper.

This is a beautiful piece! I'm in awe of the depth of shading you have here. As one who can only draw disproportionate stick-figures, I have to say I ove all of the artwork you've shared with us so far.

Such a life-like drawing! I really like the colors, and am especially fond of the way the snake is used to make the O on the bottle label.

And such wonderful green eyes the man has! Has me wondering if this might be the never mentioned Papa Standish...(grin).

Thanks for sharing.

You did an awesome job! The lighting is so good and the shading is spot on. I love how the focus is on his eyes under that hat and the hair and mustache look really good!

Hi Aida

This is a fabulous drawing of a snake oil salesman. I love the curled up moustache, the detail of the snake oil bottle, well everything about it. it made me think of J. Brooks story, "The Cure." Also the cat drawing was wonderful. And the "Blu River" poem was powerful. Thank you for sharing everything with us.

Take care
hugs
Angela

That's beautiful! I love the shading, especially on the face. He kinda reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. :)

Or maybe I should have said when he was in disguise as The gatekeeper. I think mainly because he's wearing a green jacket and his mustache curls up the same. :)

Very nice! I love the shading in his coat (is that colored pencil or crayon or...?) and the flippy bits of his hair, somehow, catch my eye. :)

Thank you! I used color pencils, two brands: Derwent Coloursoft and Bruynzeel Sakura. They're both artist grade pencils and next to watercolor, my favorite medium. I have some color pencil art books with really awesome art. I'll see if I can scan some pages and share them here.
