So somehow, I ended up with pneumonia...

:sigh:

And I swear, I took god care of myself. I avoided iced drinks and ice cream because I know they play havoc with my system, I made sure to eat lots of vegtables and fruits, I wore appropriate clothes, and yet here I am, in bed, sick.

It started with a sinus infection, which is normal for me at this time of year, I'm sorry to say. I followed the advice given to me by my doctor closely, took my drops, drank plenty of teas, had soup, kept warm (my sis can confirm all of this), and the infection still went down to my lungs. It's a bummer because I was getting better, and went to work to invigilate two remedial exams.

I'm on antibiotics right now (not penicillin, since I'm allergic to it) ad my aunt's making some soup for me. I'm off work for the time being, and the semester starts on October first. This is the worst time for me to get so sick. At least I'm no longer running a fever (my sis says I rambled at times), but I'm still coughing a lot (my voice is so hoarse a friend of mine didn't recognize me when I answered the phone). I will have to schedule a chest x-ray next week and have my blood tested. Oh joy.

You guys know of any good home remedies I could try for the cough?

Oh no, that doesn't sound good at all :( And such a frustration when you'd tried so hard to stay well. The main thing is to rest, be looked after, take the meds and not try to rush your recovery. I do hope you're feeling much better soon *here, have a sympathetic Nathan-style forehead feel*

Yes, I have some cough drops that seem to help somewhat, plus I take a lot of tea and honey.

Luckily I have my e-reader with me and I can read a story or two when I'm feeling particularly down. I also have an exam at the end of next month, so I read a few chapters when I'm able to concentrate on it. It's fascinating stuff, but I had no previous exposure to the subject so I need more time to digest it.

*hugs back*

When I've had pneumonia, the only thing that's worked was cough syrup with codeine. The first time I had it, I recracked a rib coughing.

Take good care of yourself, and remember, pneumonia is sneaky - you'll think you're feeling better, start your life up again, then WHAM! Relapse.

"The first time I had it, I recracked a rib coughing. "

Oh God, that sounds nasty.

Cough syrups are a hit or miss with me: if they're bitter, I can't keep them down - I have a strong gag reflex for anything bitter, making it difficult to swallow some pills which are in their pure state. I suffer from motion sickens, and up to recently the pills used to treat this were film-coated. New laws have been passed that request these pills to be produced without that film so that they can be cut in half and taken in smaller doses. Unfortunately, this means that just placing them on my tongue induces nausea instead of controlling it. It has made travel difficult for me.

I drink rather a lot of blackcurrent cordial in boiling water during winter - I don't know that it helps the cough but it's soothing and I do think I get less colds since I started it.
There's always lemon'n'honey, too...
Hope you're better soon.

I wouldn't be surprised - if I remember correctly, blackcurrants are one of those berries that are jam packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

Yes, I'm taking tea and honey, and though I don't like it, lemon too (though I haven't tried lemon and honey, thanks for the suggestion!). I have a higher tolerance to sour than bitter - grapefruit makes me gag as soon as it touches my lips. Anything bitter is enough to make me throw up, really.
