So I'm home tonight, after spending a grueling ride home. I suffer from a serious case of motion sickness, and often feel sick to my stomach even after I get off the bus. The pills that used to help me are now manufactured without a protective film and are horribly bitter, and anything bitter immediately makes me throw up. So the drug that's supposed to prevent me from being sick sets off nausea.

I try to get around by riding in as close as I can to thr front of the bus, but tonight it was so crowded because everyone's traveling home for Eid that I ended up at the very back of the bus. It was torture - two and a half hours spent feeling nauses and trying not to get sick. I still haven't truly recovered.

There are some natural remedies.
Ginger is one which has been used for centuries
for not only motion sickness but by pregnant women for morning sickness.
There are small devices you slip on your
wrist which are very helpful too
It is actually an accupressure device
The latter was used by a friend who went to
Tahiti and successfully crossed the rough waters between Moorea and the island of Tahiti
I guess what I am saying is you don't have to put up with it.................

So taking a tablespoon of ground ginger would be the way to do it or is there some other way? Say chewing on ginger root?

I haven't seen any such devices here, but I'll ask around.

No, not tablespoons of powder or chewing on root, but standardized
capsules................
By standardized I mean certified strength.
I know you do not live here in US, but it is used worldwide and for a long
time for motion and morning sickness.
I imagine a chemist shop would have it............a medicinary.
I am thinking of alternative medicine of course and what I experienced
when I lived overseas..............

Here is a recommendation for use of ginger in capsules:
Take two 500mg capsules 30 minutes before traveling, and one or two more after 4 hours if you start feeling nauseated.
milligram of course would be

I take all those steps (except for ginger because I didn't know of its use in preventing motion sickness, and drinking anything because it makes me even sicker) because I've been living with motion sickness for most of my life, but this time everything was against me: even though I managed to get to the station well before the bus was to leave, there was already a significant queue. Many people traveled light, I had a suitcase and had to wait for it to be stowed in the bus cargo space. By the time I got on, all the front seats were already taken, so I had to take the very last seat. There's also no way to open the windows on the bus: all the windows are in one piece and there are no moving parts. I was a mess when I got off the bus. I managed not to throw up, but I was so nauseous I wasn't able to properly greet my dad and sister who came to pick me up.

I don't deal well with the smells of cars and buses at the best of times; being at the back just made things worse. I would inhale through my mouth and exhale through my nose, doing my best not to smell anything. But the smell of gasoline, rubber and cloth just has a way of getting through. My inability to deal with the usual car smells is the reason why I will probably never learn to drive. I'd be a hazard on the road.

YES I should have not included the link just the info about the ginger capsules
I think that or the accupressure wrist band would be most helpful
The former in particular given it has been used for centuries successfully.

Oh, that sucks, I'm sorry. Do you have to ride 2 1/2 hours everyday? That's a really long ride. Can you maybe coat the pills with something, or grind them up and pour them into empty pill casings?

You know, that idea with empty pill casings is actually not bad, if one can get a hold on pill casings.

As for the ride, thank God I don't have to ride that long every day; thankfully it only takes me about 15 minutes on foot to get to work. It takes 2 1/2 hours to get from the place I live and work to my home town. I don't go there often enough, and my motion sickness just makes the trip worse. This weekend we're celebrating Eid al Adha, so I had to be here.

Happy Eid al Adha! I hope you have a nice time visiting with your family.

I've seen empty capsules available for purchase online, like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Empty-Gelatin-Capsules-Size-1000/dp/B000ACUJRW
Not sure how easy they are to fill and put together though.

Have the very same problem, so understand you completely:(. At least the pills we have here don't have a taste at all, though they need to be taken with water in advance. (I still remember that terrible day when I decided to go with a cheaper pills on the way yo Italy - two planes and then two hours in a car on mountain roads - since then I don't forget to buy them).
And the bracelets black_raven135 mentioned have appeared in our drug-stores recently, haven't tried them myself yet, but heard they're working.

When I asked the apothecary what the deal was, she said it was some new law issued by the European Union that says all pills have to be unprotected so that they can be halved into smaller doses and be safe to give to children. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, because some tablets must not be halved since their ingredients need to get through the stomach into the small intestine undamaged to have any effect. Plus it is almost always impossible to halve the tablet properly to get the correct dosage. It's a bad practice yet doctors prescribe cutting tablets in half all the time. >_<

I haven't seen those bracelets around here. If they're working, that would be the end of my troubles.
