Why do all these frickin' websites assume we all want to connect every bit of our lives online to our various profiles and personalities? I like to keep them separate, thank you very much, for various reasons.

And yes, I know, you can choose not to share, but it's the rising number of requests to connect this social service with that one and so on and so forth that sets my teeth on edge. </end rant>

Here Here!

Each group I belong to has a different purpose...do I really want all my theatre friends and family to know I read fan fiction? And does my livejournal friends really care about all the theatre shows I'm doing?

The internet is great for compartmentalization, and now they are trying to make it one shiny access!

Exactly. It's like real life friendships - I have friends with whom I share certain interests that would bore some of my other friends to tears. I don't try to force those groups to like the same thing.

I'm in a bit of a dry spell at the moment; I don't seem to want to do anything... :depression: so I guess I don't really care either way, but I've decided to make a concerted effort to get out of this funk I'm in... 3w4dw might help in that regard...

I know! I hated that feature then, and I do now. I have Facebook, but barely use it. I often have to ask my sis (who's an expert) how to use certain features. If it weren't for family abroad, I'd probably shut down the whole thing...

*hugs*

I keep complaining to myself that I don't get any responses to my posts etc, and then I realised that if I don't make the effort to talk to other people, they probably won't make the effort to talk to me. Hence me getting involved in 3W4DW. My personal goal is to comment on at least one person's journal each day!!

That's wonderful! I saw your FONSFAQ about England, and if I think of some interesting questions, I'll ask. :)

And OMG your icon just reminded me! My sis was here over the weekend and brought Hawaii 5.0 cause she's nut about Alex and Scott and now she's infected me too! :headdesk: I don't need another fandom! :grabby hands:

It's the in-your-face of it that bothers me the most. They seem to think everyone wants to share every single thing about themselves with the rest of the internets...

I have lots more icons on my DW account! LOL!

But H50 is wonderful :) I'm so glad you're loving it too. It makes me happy when friends share my fandoms!!

LOL! My only other big fandoms (I think) are Star Wars, Star Trek, Leverage, Sons of Anarchy, DC Comics and X-Men :)

Ah yes, Star Trek! I knew I forgot something. Star Wars I like a lot, but have never been fannish about it. X-Men I know mostly through movies, which I thought were enjoyable. Leverage I want to see some time; I had started watching Sons of Anarchy but have no idea why I stopped, and I think that if I ever got into comics, that would be the death of me because I'd try to keep all the story lines straight and buy all the issues and so on, forgetting to eat, sleep and work.

How about the Invisible Man? Have you seen that show?? (Random quote: Says the Keeper to Fawkes, paraphrased: You should be more cheerful, believe that the glass is half full! Fawkes replies. "Oh, I do believe the glass is half full. Unfortunately, it's filled with blood!")

I'm not traditionally fannish about Star Wars, but it has a huge part of my heart and always will do. Especially my Clones ♥

I think I may have seen an episode of two of Invisble Man, but it didn't appeal to me much, I'm afraid.

How about Jericho or John Doe?

It's so annoying but it's everywhere. Do you keep up with eff.org? They've saved me more than once because even though you can opt out of something on FB (or the 100 other places on the internet which would like to link you together), it's only a matter of time before they change the wording and update their rules. And updates usually mean you have to opt out of different things entirely. It's so tiresome!

Yes, I do. I too followed their advice with regards to Facebook more times than I can count. And Facebook usually doesn't make it easy for you to opt out of something; many times I had to dig through their options to turn some feature off. Honestly, I'd shut it down if it weren't the only way to keep up with some family members who live abroad.
